I had a very nice experience in Haarlem this weekend. Actually my best gastronomic experience since I arrived!
We went for a romantic dinner at the Swoel in the centre! My boyfriend was complaining right getting in because he was the second guy in the restaurant!
This small restaurant count only 6 tables, and on Friday night, it was packed with girls!!!!!
We arrived late, and get a table, but they recommend you to book on advance!
The waitress was absolutely nice and helpful!

We had a beef sashimi and salmon tartar as starters and then a goat cheese cannelloni and a meat stew as main dish.
They warned us that the portions were small, and actually, you can easily have a 3rd dish!
We chose the first and cheapest red wine on the list, a Catalonia red tempranillo, Grenache from 2007…. It was our biggest disappointment! The wine was really aggressive and not balanced,…. It was difficult to drink it,…

The food was on the opposite! It was fresh, high quality products, cooked carefully and well matched!!!!
The beef sashimi was more like a teriyaki, presented on the Japanese way and with chopsticks!!!!! The meat was just so tender … really, really nice!

The tartar was also fresh and really amazing … I’m not a fanatic of salmon, but this one was not fat, was tasty! It was garnished with small capers that balance the dish! My boyfriend found it no enough seasoned… maybe a pinch more of acidity would have been great,…

The main dishes were really incredible! The meat stew was served with a truffles homemade smashed potatoes… Perfect! The meat was tender and well prepared! I loved it.

The goat cheese cannelloni had small pieces of mango and pepper … and the mix was absolutely delicious!!

It has been a real nice experience, I enjoyed it, and could have had a dessert … but it was already ok for us.
I highly recommend you to try it … for a romantic dinner, a girls dinner or just because you want to enjoy fresh and well cooked food!

The price is around 30 Euros, wine included …

I visited the Swoel yesterday. Great experience, fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked, very nice and kind service and above all at the check time, not too pricy.
Starter was a tuna lemon shashimi (with spring onion, soy and wasabi) and the main barracuda filet with a nice selection of vegetables.
The lady who served us was so kind and cheerful (I'm not used to this in most of restaurant of this region..) and explained everything in 2 languages Dutch and English.
She made a small mistake in the order (but the outcome was as delicious as the first choice) and she offered us 2 more glasses of wine.
One of the best places in Haarlem to me.
