My 6 best smoothies with tips and rules to make the perfect green smoothie

Smoothies, smoothies bowls, green smoothies and all kind shakes are so popular among the healthy people! I have to admit it is quite tempting to get in one glass 50% of your fruit and vegetable daily intake!

But every time, I look at these greenish potions, I am always doubtful of the taste,... Sometimes I think  it is too much healthiness and not enough of pleasure taste!
So, helped by my best health advocate, friend and partner, Cecilia Gotherstrom, I started to try options and find some healthy smoothies that are also super tasty and delicious!

Basically, you can mix everything you want together! But there is always hidden rules to make the perfect smoothie!

Mix of fresh and frozen fruits for the smoothie
Rule 1: The healthy rule is to always combine your fruits and vegetables with some fat. Why? Very easy! Fat is the element that will ensure you can digest well and take profit of the most antioxidants and nutrients the greens offer!
What kind of fat can we use? Easy, again! Adding a handful of nuts or a glass of any milk you like, will do!

Rule 2: You heard well: fruits AND vegetables! Not a fan of salads or raw veggies? hide it in your smoothie! You will not even notice it and will feel so proud of yourself, being a whole grown up and healthy dude! I eat veggies!

Rule 3: GREEN. I know it sounds scary,... but again, the whole point is to get the green color with a rainbow flavor!

Fruits and seeds for smoothie
Rule 4: this is my personal rule. To make a delicious smoothie, you need to balance the sweet and sour, and focus on the taste. With a mix of sweet and sour fruits and vegetables, and the help of spices and fresh herbs, you can create amazing personal flavors! Just follow the same path I walked: test, and try, and adjust!

To finish, let me share with you some practical tips:

The following 5 recipes are super quick, easy, and I promise delicious!  Feel free to adjust consistency and ingredients along with your own personal taste. The smoothie is too thick, add some water, milk, or juice. Too liquid? add some more nuts, flax seeds or chia seeds!

Don't be scared to add the whole fruit with skin or the stalks. The blender will make it smooth enough to enjoy it, and you will get more nutrients and flavor, with less work! Though, make sure you clean well all your fruits and veggies, or choose organic ones if possible.

Use as much as possible seasonal fruits! And if you really want some exotic ones, use the frozen options! Besides the fact, that they will be cheaper and probably more environment friendly, they will also give you a fresh hint to your smoothie if we are in summer!

On the same idea, if you are in a hurry when you go to work in the morning, why don't you prepare, cut and slice all the ingredients and keep it in the freezer. you just have to get your bag out the night before, or even on the same morning in summer, blend it, and hop! you go!

5/ Summer watermelon

In summer I love to have watermelon,... it is refreshing and sweet. The problem I often have is that it is not easy to eat the whole fruit quickly. So it goes perfectly in the morning smoothie! It brings water and sweetness, and the mix with basil turns it even yummier!

 Mix together in the blender:

  • 100 gr. watermelon
  • 2 sticks of basil
  • 1 orange juice

  • 1/2 cucumber
For this one, I get a small handful of almond on the side when I drink it.

Chocolate and coconut smoothie
One extra smoothie recipe for the road,... one of my favorite!
Choco-coco smoothie

The winter morning winner! This smoothie is just a fully heart and body warming!
Mix together in a blender:
  • 1 banana
  • 1 handful of fresh spinach
  • 2 tbsp or raw cacao powder
  • 1 glass of coconut milk or water
  • 1 pinch of chili powder
If you noticed I use quite a lot of celery or cucumber or lettuce. These veggies does not give that much taste, but help to provide water. So if you are not a big fan of celery for example, it is a good way to have it whitout noticing! ;-)
But, feel free to experiment with any kind of green leaves you have around: kale, spinach, all greens salads, fresh herbs and even spirulina, matcha tea or chlorella. Think of fennel, celery, carrots, beetroots for the rainbow!

I hope these ideas and tips will be helpful to give you more ideas and make you try new combinations! What would you favorite smoothie? Please share it with us in order we can inspire more people!
