This new restaurant located along the Spaarne claimed to be specialized in Mediterranean cuisine. Alta in Spanish means high and made think since the beginning like something quite sophisticated and elegant,... it sounded though a little bit pompous.
So I decided to bring the Dining out Meetup Group some Sundays ago. The place is impressive, big and warm with dark wood and a big red wall decorated with masks. The place is welcoming and the service as well!
For starter I was curious to try the duck croquettes. It was really surprising,... that much that most of the table was not able to say if they like it even after cleaning perfectly their plate. The duck croquette was served on top of a cold sauerkraut puree and grapes. The mix of textures, the cold and the warm, the perfect and surprising balance of flavours was really, really, nice! I loved it!
As main dish, I went for a medallion of hare and rabbit served with potatoes puree, wine-poached pears and a cranberry sauce. Again the mix of texture and flavors! Wonderful!
For dessert, I had a hazelnut parfait, that was properly prepared but perhaps too plain taste for my taste,... I am crazy about hazelnut and I would have expected a more intense taste.
The wine list is quite nice, and well done.
The price for the 3 courses menu is 27, 95 Euros.
The chef takes risks and is creative, the ingredients are high quality and they propose something really different! I really recommend it!
