Salted Cake
This is a very old recipe I was used to make when I was young. It is always a success and you can just adapt it and create your own recipes!
This cake is perfect for a party, as appetizer, a picnic or for a kids birthday!
To prepare a salted cake, you need:
- 250 grs of wheat flour
- 4 eggs
- 1 baking powder packet
- salt and pepper
- 10 cl of olive oil
- 150 grs of cooked ham
- 150 grs of grated comté or gruyère
- 100 grs of green olives (or black, or mixed)
- a little bit of butter for the mold
Put the oven on 180ºC.
1/ In a bowl, gather the flour, baking powder and a pinch of salt. Mix it together.
2/ Then, add the olive oil and eggs. Go mixing slowly and make sure to have a smooth mixture.
3/ Add the cooked ham cut into small pieces, the grated cheese, some pepper and finally the olives. Mix everything.
4/ Put some butter inside the mold, well spread all over.
Pour the mixture and put it in the oven for 40 minutes. Let it cool and serve in slices or cubes.
Tip: Do you know how to check if your cake is ready and well cooked inside?
Take a knife and put it in the middle of the cake. If the blade comes out clean, it means the cake is ready. If you have some of the preparation sticked to it, it means you need some more time in the oven!
This is the original recipe. Now you can change the ingredients and create your own cake! In total, it took me 15 minutes of preparation and 40 minutes for the baking.
For example, today, I made 3 cakes for my house warming party. It is next week, but I will freeze the cakes for the week, and they will be perfect next week! ready to eat!
Besides this recipe, I did 2 other ones, let me know if you like it:
Replace the ham, cheese and olives by 150 grs of grated goat cheese and Thyme.
- Gouda and Raisin:
Replace the ham, cheese and olives by 150 grs of grated Gouda, 100 grs of raisins and a handful of sunflower seeds. I also covered the top of the cake with the seeds before to put it in the oven. It looks wonderful!
